The Vice President of the International University of Japan recently visited PNG.

On Wednesday 1st May 2024, Professor Hiroshi Kato conducted a guest lecture on Japan’s modernization/development history and explained the rationale for Japanese support to PNG to more than 180 students and lecturers at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG). This lecture was also observed online by the staff and students from the PNG University of Technology and Divine Word University.

This guest lecture is one of two key activities under the current UPNG/JICA partnership program called JICA Chair.

The lecture at UPNG on Wednesday was then followed by a short visit to Sogeri Primary School where the Professor had the opportunity to observe JICA volunteers teaching grades 3 and 4 classes before speaking to teachers of Sogeri Primary School and staff and students of Sogeri National School of Excellence.

JICA believes in encouraging more partnership activities like these to improve the quality of education in PNG and also strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
